FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

MOISSANITE

How is moissanite created?

Natural moissanite occurs when a meteor hits the Earth. Intense impact, heat, and pressure of this event creates moissanite. Because this doesn’t happen too often (phew!) and natural moissanite lacks quality in both color and clarity, all of our moissanite is lab-created to deliver the most beautiful stones possible with sustainability and control in mind.

Where is your moissanite from?

We utilize two stone cutting teams located in different regions to deliver more options for our clients. One team is located in Surat, India, where 9 out of every 10 diamonds in the world are cut. This team specializes in vintage cuts, specifically old mine and old euro, that resemble the look of an heirloom diamond. We also have a husband and wife cutting team based in China. They specialize in our signature crushed ice hybrid facet pattern and perfectly modern white stones. Our stone specialists will select the cutting team that is best for you based on the design details of your piece.

How does moissanite compare to a diamond?

Even though they share many optical similarities, moissanite is chemically and compositionally different from both natural and lab-created diamonds. Moissanite has a higher refractive index, and it also differs in terms of hardness. Diamonds are measured at a 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness while moissanite comes in at a 9.25-9.5. Moissanite is completely suitable for everyday wear, and their color grade and sparkle are made to last. Moissanite is also completely conflict-free and eco-friendly, unlike the majority of diamonds! We believe love should never start with someone else’s suffering – period.

What colors is moissanite available in?

Moissanite naturally occurs in a range of modern white (DEF),vintage white (GHI), canary (light to vivid), green (light, mid and dark), blue (light, blue/green and cornflower) and black. We also offer lab sapphire in addition to moissanite.

SETTINGS + METALS

What metals do you offer?

We offer 14k and 18k white, yellow, and rose gold, as well as platinum. Two-tone settings are available at no extra cost. Our base pricing includes 14k gold. 18k is a $300 upgrade, and platinum is a $500 upgrade.

What’s the difference between 14k and 18k?

14k is more durable and slightly less yellow than 18k, which is more saturated and pure. We default to 14k for best value and longevity unless you prefer otherwise.

Do you recommend platinum?

For pave styles and thicker bands, yes. Platinum is denser and hypoallergenic but also scratches more easily. For solitaires and everyday wear, 14k white gold is often more durable.

Does my diamond color affect metal choice?

Yes. We recommend F color or higher for white gold and platinum settings to avoid visual contrast. Warmer tones like G-H-I pair beautifully with yellow and rose gold.

What is a two-tone setting?

A two-tone setting has the basket in one metal (usually white) and the band in another (typically yellow or rose gold). 14k must be paired with 14k, and platinum can only pair with 18k for compatibility.

What’s the thinnest band you offer?

1.5mm is our thinnest width, as anything less will compromise durability. Our Harper solitaire is a popular, minimal style at this width.

Do you sell just settings?

No. We only sell completed rings (stone + setting) or loose lab diamonds. This ensures our quality control standards are met from start to finish.

BANDS + CUSTOMIZATION

Do you make custom bands?

Yes. We offer full custom options for bands to match or complement your ring. Email us reference photos or inspiration, and our team will guide you from there.

Do you offer full eternity bands?

Yes, but keep in mind they cannot be resized. If you anticipate needing sizing flexibility, we recommend adding a small sizing bar.

What is an open band?

Open bands are ideal for low-set rings or those with donuts that don’t allow flush stacking. Custom made to fit your exact ring, they create a seamless stacked look.

What size should I choose for my band?

For bands over 2mm, we suggest sizing up a quarter size. For 3.5mm and above, a half-size increase is recommended due to snugness when stacked.

How long does it take to make my piece?

Our lead time is 8 weeks. We offer 4-week (+$500) and 6-week (+$300) rush options depending on stone availability.

  3. You approve your CAD + stone.
  4. Your ring is waxed, cast, and set by hand in Orange County.

What is a CAD?

CAD = Computer Aided Design. It’s a detailed 3D rendering of your ring showing proportions, stone height, prongs, and design elements, created by our in-house design team.
